At the download section of the Ministry of Labour, Department of Employment I downloaded the documents for an work permit renewal application WP.5. http://wp.doe.go.th/sites/default/files/form/form_tt5.pdf

The relevant page for teachers in Thailand is posted below.

One major change is the requirement for documents from the Teachers' Council of Thailand. Until now the Labour Office in our province has never asked for any documents related to The Teachers' Council of Thailand but the rules below seems to be the most recent. I'll have to wait until April 2011 to find out whether these rules are enforced in our province.

Not mentioned in this document but our Labour Office also requires a copy of a document that proves that the teacher is registered for Social Security, a copy of the tax clearance receipt and a copy of the PND91 form (tax form).

I just came back from the Labour Office in Phetchaburi for my annual work permit renewal.

At this office the documents below have to be submitted when renewing the work permit.

    • Application form WP.5
    • original work permit
    • copy of the passport
    • copy of the employment contract
    • copy of a teacher license or provisional teaching permit or a guarantee letter issued by The Teachers' Council of Thailand
    • copy of the tax clearance receipt and the PND 91 form
    • copy of membership of the Social Security program
I'll have my work permit back on Monday morning the 25th April. :thumbsup2:

Thanks for your comment, ibark. :wai3:

Teachers have to submit a medical certificate according to the new standards (syphilis, etc.) when applying for an initial work permit (WP.2).

When applying for the work permit I had to pay 100 THB processing fee. As promised I picked up my work permit on the 25th April. :thumbsup2:

Had to pay the additional 3,000 THB. I got a receipt of 3,100 THB in all. Good again for one year. :thumbsup2:

I got my non-B extended another year, today. I am good until Mar 31 2013. Immediately after the Non-B, the head of the Thai Dept took my WP and PP to get the WP renewed. The only thing that I had to do was give blood (and did that about a month ago). I am in my 3rd contract and assume that I failed miserably in my attempt to get the teacher license. We will see. Back to the WP, tho, I suppose I am lucky that my WP came due between the time I took the TCT#9 & when the results are announced. It does make me wonder, with the Teacher license requirement, if this can be exploited. Whenever you apply for a WP, make sure you have taken whichever test is closest to your renewal date for the WP.

Re: #5 - my medical certification - my BP was checked, and I was tested for syphilis. Nothing else. They did not check for leprosy, or if I am insane.

Perhaps when I go to pick up the WP, I will correct the spelling (righ s/b right) and grammar (completely s/b complete).
Also, the majority of the forms were filled out in English, not in Thai. One thing the teacher took with her that I do not see listed here, is a list of all the foreign teachers and their salaries. I was disappointed to find out that I am not the highest paid foreigner.

thanks... in my 6+ years here, this is just my second teaching job, and it'll be 3 years at this school when the contract expires. I do know the drill, and if i stay in samut prakan, I know the labour office & immigration folks as well. That said, I am sure there'll be plenty of second guessing myself between now and then.

I got 'checked' for them all. Not sure how as all I had was a blood test and my pressure checked. Maybe they monitored me closely as I sat waiting...

yes, judging by the gossip around school a list of the salaries must be needed for something as a copy was left unattended. and now people are crying and bitching.

Re: Non-Competition Clause when working for a Teacher Agency in Thailand

Not sure if this belongs here? please move if you think it needs to.
I just had a meeting with the person in charge of doing my WP at my school, she has just returned from the labour office who informed her that as from now, renewals of WP also require a medical, same as the one you provided when first applying.
