I'm really sorry you and your colleagues get paid so little. The whole argument of WP and visa reimbursements pale in comparison...really.

I've not yet paid any WP or visa costs, even at the SS, but...

I start at a new school soon & they do things slightly differently. They offer you the job but only tell you that the salary & conditions are 'competitive'. You then accept the offer (or not & remain in the dark) after which they send you the contract.

I almost had a heart attack I can tell you - two in fact! One when I read the starting salary & another when I realized that it didn't include the accommodation allowance. :hilarious

There was a bit of an anomaly in there though. They only pay, an unspecified, contribution to the WP & extension costs; seems a bit out of place. :huh

So should I stick to my principles & refuse to sign the contract? Should I turn down a six-figure salary, a benefits package that includes comprehensive health insurance, life insurance & dental plan and comes with a myriad of opportunities for PD? All for what amounts to a 500B deduction of my monthly salary?

I know what you mean, its really a symptom of the sickness not the cause. Although considering it in isolation may be cutting off your nose to spite your face... :yes

When you have the luxury to make choices you can play the game by your own rules... When your choices are limited you get what is given to you...
No need to argue I think...

One should carefully consider the choice of one's words which are published on public forums. One should also carefully consider what is approved of on public forums.

Shame on the both of you: MarcusB and Stamp.

Don't settle for last and if you do, don't brag about it. You are worth so much more. We are ALL worth so much more.

Why then? Because my salary at a rural secondary government school is 30,000 THB. What's your salary then and where in Thailand?

You and a number of my friends have been cheated by schools because they didn't choose to walk away. I've done that. I've walked away. I understand that you gotta take what your chosen destination gives you. What I don't understand is why you approve of some butt-hole responding with a buck you.

Any agency will pay any qualified teacher 40,000. Although, it's true they don't pay for the whole year. They will also pay for any visa fees. I am truly sorry that you drew the card you did.

Don't accept less! YOU are worth it.

My NES colleagues and myself make 48,000. NNES teachers make 38,000. I've offered positions at my school to many friends. They all refused for different reasons...including that they make more elsewhere.
