How many times have you had to modify activities in materials because the "famous" personalities used in the books aren't famous at all in Thailand? Or, the Western personalities were okay, but you knew using Thai personalities would have been much better?

For lower-level students reviewing tenses, I find using Thai celebrity profiles really helpful. Sts might turn over a card, see a Thai celebrity and have to make statements about who they see. Expected language might include:

His name is _____. He was born in ____ . He's a (job) but in this picture he's (verb+ing). I do/don't like him because...

Also, I recently had to google the birth dates of Thai celebs for a lesson on dates and ordinal numbers. Students were presented with a card of a celeb and then had to pick up a card with the matching birth date and place of birth. Expected language included:

This is ____. S/he is from ______. S/he was born on (date).

Anywhoo, regardless of the activity, level and/or expected language, I always find myself scratching my head for new celebs or digging up new information on celebs I already know of.

I think it might be helpful to start an inventory of info pages for Thai personalities. If we get a list of a few dozen or so, we can use this as a one-stop-shop for Thai celeb info.

Here's a list of Thai actresses:

    Thai actors:

    Sek Loso:

    Gen. Prem

    Sondhi

Andrew Biggs (not Thai, but a celeb in Thailand)

    Aum Atichart Chumnanon

    Endorphine (the band, not Da)
Endorphine (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Mum Jokmok
Petchtai Wongkamlao - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That's just the tip of the iceberg. Please feel free to add more celebs, politicians, historical figures (no royalty please) and other persons of interest.

James Wattana, a Thai snooker legend (yes, I know a bit outdated, but it was he that put Thailand on the map as far as world snooker goes).
    James_wattana.jpg

He's been a pro since 1989 and got as far as world number 3, has won 3 ranking event titles, and has 3 ranked tournament 147 maximum breaks, and I believe he's still in the top 64 just.

He is also the originator of the hard to do bridge shot over a ball by bringing one leg up (crossed with other) and laid flat on the rail which allows to stand tiptoe as balance and weight is on the leg laid flat on rail. This extends the height and angle at which you can strike down on the cue ball ... was very innovative in the early 90's ... used to copy it but now it's just painful to do at my age lol.
