I've worked at primary English Program schools for six years and we've always been battling around to find good and appropriate text and workbooks for our Thai students. Many series are produced in Malaysia, Singapore and India and are unfortunately tailored for students in those countries.

Since May 2010, PLAN PARITHAT, Marshall Cavendish has introduced a series of science books for Grade 1 to grade 6, which discusses the topics close to its Thai equivalent and follows the Basic Education Core Curriculum BE 2551. The main advantage is that what I am teaching is taught of will be taught by my Thai colleague within an acceptable time difference. This makes it a lot easier for my students to comprehend what I'm teaching or have taught. :happy1:

Here are two scans of the textbook for grade 3.

Forgot to write. These books come with great Teacher's Guides. The Guides also have tables with the estimated time that should be spend on the several topics. Below is a passage of the Teacher's Guide Grade 3.

I used these books last year. Grade 3. Did not like them at all.
A sentence from grade 3 book: "Every time we breath in we take in 500 cubic meter of air." or something like that.
The books for P4 and P5 are OK. P6 - BORING.

This year I'm teaching P1, P2 and P3 so I asked to school to go back to books we had the years before: [IMG]
Let's learn Science for Marshall Cavendish.

And any way, I don't understand why 7-8 year old need textbooks. I did it without the textbook in grade 2 a couple of years ago and it was great. When the book with all the pictures and colors is in the teachers hands, everybody listens. When they have textbooks it's always like: "Wow dude! there's a picture of giant octopus on page 57!"

I used this book along with iScience last year for P1. Some information in the book was flat out wrong. I balked about having to use it. This year only iScience. The textbook was written by Khee Boone, and when I think something is explained poorly in the book, I ask my kids if they believe everything Khee Boone tells them.

I'm not teaching in primary school but did you guys look at the KS website from the BBC?
A lot of good resources and online activities for teaching sciences.
I may do a review about theses websites latter in the week.

Has anybody used the science books in this series for primary children? Any comments, views or experiences?
