In answer to the title, unsurprisingly not.

I was having a recent conversation with a friend about the world cup and we were discussing which players we think Hodgson should be taking to Brazil. The conversation didn't last long. Pickings for English football talent seem to be at an all time low at the moment. I suggested bringing a few players out of retirement, i'm pretty sure they would do better than the current crop of over paid under achievers. We both began compiling an England dream 11 from the modern era.

    Here was my 11:

    Shilton

    Pearce, Adams, Terry, Neville

    Gerrard, Gasgoigne, Scholes, Barnes

    Lineker, Rooney

I really couldn't decide on who to go for up front with Shearer and Owen also in the mix. I thought about including Beckham too but for me he was always just a one trick pony. Any thoughts on my 11? Have I missed anyone? .....

Hahaha, Butcher was mental! I reckon only Stuart Pearce alone can match up to that insane level of commitment. It makes me laugh seeing players running out these days wearing gloves etc. They don't make em' like they used to!

Barnes shouldn't be allowed because of those ridiculously tight shorts he wore

Fair play crew, after giving it a bit more thought I think you're right. Shearer had it all and was formidable at his peak, still think he made a mistake not going abroad though.

Very true but the guy could rap!

Speaking of footballers trying to break into the charts, didn't Kevin Keegan release a dodgy song too?

Define modern - or give a cut off point.

(Bobby Charlton is only 12 years older than Peter Shilton)

Bobby Charlton ended his career in the late 70's playing for the likes of Bangor FC whereas Peter Shilton played his last international for England in 1990. I reckon anyone post 1980 should fit the modern era bracket.
