Hello all, I'm Derek's sister, Susan, living in Scotland. Thank you for acknowledging his recent death and thanks to the people who attended his funeral.
Charliesuphan, Derek actually told me the story of meeting you one night when he was on the way to the hospital in pain. He was told it was stomach related. He did get checked over by a GP in the UK last year, but apparently was told he was fine.
I can only reiterate what was said about carrying details of your next of kin with you, in case of emergency.
    Take care.

Hi Susan and my condolences to you and the rest of your family on Derek's sudden death. Thank you for posting and letting us know a little more. I never met Derek but as a fellow Scot, a fellow chalkie and a fellow traveller I was very saddened to learn about his untimely death and being of the same age and background, Derek's death got me wondering about my own mortality. Let me wish you all well in moving on from this sad situation. If there's anything we can do or answer any questions please free to ask here or by PM - I'm back in Thailand right now but I have moved on to China recently so back here for a break for the Chinese New Year. Best wishes and once more my condolences.

Dear susan , my condolences to you and your family .I know no words will bring Derek back . I just want to share this with all of you .
About 17 years ago the same happened to my dad while he was next to me in the car , Nurses at the emergency (not doctor) asked him what he had eaten ,a young attentive doctor replied the stomach is not up in the chest must be heart related and checked my dad and put him immediately on a life support machine .The day after my dad received 3 bypasses and lived happily till last year . The point is if anyone of us suffers severe chest pain go to a heart specialist not any GP
Susan if there is anything please PM me
