This has been posted before. I just can't find it.

How to change the profile song. I've done it before.

Settings and edit profile and there is the box for the music player.

I must have uploaded MP3 files somewhere and then pasted the link.

Can somebody tell a senile person some sites that would work for this?

I really don't understand what you're talking about.

You and sixteen others, it seems. I'm sorry I was so very unclear.

    I'll try again.

In the Settings menu, in the left hand column, under My Settings, click on Edit Profile.

    settings menu.png

    edit profile closeup.png

Go down to Additional Information and you will an entry form for Flash Music Player.

    settings close up.png

An MP3 file name is inserted here.

This information is used for the Profile Song.

Go to the View Profile page. Half way down the left hand column you will see My Profile Song.

This provides background music for visitors. I removed Keely Smith's Sing Sing Sing.
I'm trying to replace it with The Doors' Break On Through.

I recall putting a link that ended with .mp3 in the box.

So, I've been uploading the song to different file share sites trying to get a link that will work.

So far, I haven't. That is why I made this request:
I know that this "how to add a song" tutorial has been posted before. I can neither remember it nor search it.

If somebody manges to become bored this unplanned three-day weekend, please let me know how to proceed.

Thank you, sorry for all the confusion. I hope I didn't over correct and come off as condescending.
    :ashamed:

Main problem is the URL must finish with .mp3
It's easy for me as I have my own hosting account so I can do it, but every free site on google you can upload but it always changes the URL name so it doesn't finish with .mp3

I'll keep looking, but here's mine:

Thank you for a very quick response. And thank you for setting up such a wonderful toy in the first place.
And for the snow on the site in December. And all the other thankless tasks you perform.

You have inspired me to try one work around. One site does allow changing the file name. I never thought of just tacking dot m p 3 onto the end.

Ok, unless you know of any other free upload sites which will let you upload an mp3 file and then the link will actually end in .mp3 here is the best way I've found.

    So to this site:
Direct Link Upload - upload - link - free

Then click in the box below: Upload Your Files Here:
Once finished uploading there will be a green tick, I clicked that but then I clicked blue 'View Your Files' just under the Facebook icon thing, which then opened a new page

    Links:
Direct Link Upload - upload, link, free

    http://www.directlinkupload.com/uploads/171.101.225.34/2.%20SOS.mp3

Once on that new opened page I went to the bottom right and just clicked on the .mp3 file which opened another window where I could listen to my song, however you can also copy the URL which does end in .mp3 and put that into your Flash Music Player part in your edit profile in Settings.

    And that was that.
    Hope you understand the above

Well, it's certainly not the most cheerful song I've ever heard, and I wouldn't want to listen to it while drinking my morning coffee. That song might make my coffee nervous.

But, yes, I liked it. I grew up on 60's rock, after all. Who is the artist?

I believe I understood your clear instructions. The upload kept stalling, though. This happened to me on some other sites as well. I tried another site, I tried using dropbox, and then I got lucky.

    The answer was kiwi6.com

Assuming that someone else wants to or will want to play around with the music player, here's how kiwi6 went.

Registration was free. They send an email. you click the link in the email, and you log in.

The upload button is on the top of the screen.

    kiwi6 - upload page.png

When that's done, the files button is on a drop down menu at the top of the screen.

    kiwi6 - files.png

The file (in my case bot.mp3) is here.

    kiwi6 file page.png

Click the file and the share button will appear.

    kiwi6 - share page.png

Click on share and the links will appear.

    kiwi6 - hotlink page.png

Now, here's where things can go wrong. Choose the Direct Hotlink This file ends with .mp3 Past it into the flash music player box.

Thank you again for taking the time to help. I hope this mini-thread proves to be helpful to others.

It was Mark Owen and Robbie Williams with Take that from their last album a few years back...

That's my job around here, to help with the tech stuff...
Glad you sorted your song out...
