The Department of Consular Affairs will open a new passport issuing office at the MRT station in Klong Toey on Dec 9.

The new office will by in the Metro Mall area, with 20 booths able to serve about 800 people a day. It will be open Monday to Friday from 8.30-3.30pm, according to a statement issued by the MRT operator Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc.

The service aims to serve people living in inner Bangkok and reduce traffic congestion by encouraging use of the mass transportation system.

Good news if you live in central Bangkok and want to get your Thai passport.

Not much use for the rest of us.

Not much good for normal Thais either. Wife has just made three round trips to SC plaza (southern bus terminal) to renew a passport for our daughter. Nine hour round trip each time.

How about a department at each and every provincial hall? This would be something akin to a service rather than the poor system which is in place at the moment. Nine hour round trips are a disgrace. We are fortunate that the trip is only roughly 2 hours there two hours back.

will the ferry cut any time off the journey?

Unlikely, we have a four lane highway all the way from PKK to Bangers.

Maybe the new passport office could do 90-day check-ins at lunch and after 3:30.
