Our hosting company had server problems, hence Thailand Teaching being offline for a couple of hours.

    Our sincere apologies.

idk ... thought the new software was to prevent issues such as this.

that said, it is just a forum. some of the info here is invaluable, but nothing we can't do without for a few hours.

Stamp & Maka, you guys owe no one an apology. Things happen & you guys were all over when it broke & got it fixed. Thanks for getting it back up and running quickly.

I had the thought 'Who could I have pissed off that badly in the past 48 hours to warrant this?' 555

When BF said that he too was banned, I figured something more sinister was afoot than me simply having been less than eloquent.

    That was my first thought.

Nothing like having a big red S on ones chest to get things done!

I wondered if the junta had its panties in a knot and was half-expecting a visit from immigration later today.

Actually I thought, "Who banned the site? Did someone say something totally illegal?"

Nothing like that, Daniel. It was misinformation from the financial department to the operations department at the hosting company. The financial department has the authority to order that an account gets suspended. That's what happened with us.

It's a fact that hosting Thailand Teaching with a more reliable hosting company cost (much) more money.

Ah. So it was a late payment that caused it. Or a perceived late payment. Now I'm curious. How much does it actually cost to host this website?

I'm sure Makaveli will soon come with the answer.

All getting a little off topic really.
What happened was nothing more than a mix up between the hosting and the cPanel payments, 2 separate companies working together.

We as the customers pay the hosting company, they then host us but also they have to pay cPanel to host the cPanel, and they must pay for that not us, as we pay the hosting, but there was a mix up and cPanel thought they hadn't been paid by the hosting but it was just mixed up somehow
So all we had was like 2 hours of downtime, which usually wouldn't be noticed apart from the Account Suspended page was showing.

As for the cost of the hosting used here, we have been using the same hosting for the past 6 years, we have a good relationship with them, and they are super quick to fix things, it costs around 10,000 THB per year in hosting alone, we're hosted via a USA hosting company

Hope that clears up any questions.
    Maka...

Don't forget the domain name costs and the owner protection costs.

In regards to the hosting costs, the year 2014 - 10,000 THB was paid by Google Adverts payments for a little bit (clicks-dependent), by 1 donor but the lion share was paid by Makaveli and me. That's the way it has been since we started Thailand Teaching.

You two unsung heroes deserve a little recognition.

So, if 120 members donated 100 baht a year, Batman and Robin wouldn't have to pay operating expenses out of their own pockets?

Could we get linked with some sort of expat group in Thailand for a small annual fee? Sort of sponsorship for us to advertise their activities. That way, we get some money to pay for the website, and provide more links among expats working in Thailand.
